390'4" World Record Motorcycle Jump
Thursday, August 20, 2009 at 1:19PM
To celebrate our 400th post here at TIFR, Ryan Capes attempted to jump 400 feet on a dirtbike. He fell a little short (390'4"), but still broke the old world record. Just to put that distance into perspective, a football field is 360 feet long, including the end zones. Not only did the jump break the distance record, but it also broke the gap record (348 feet) and the height record (78 feet). The late great Evil Knievel himself dubbed Ryan the king of distance jumping. To get this jump in the books, they laid 1,480 feet (over a 1/4 of a mile) of asphalt so Capes would have enough speed to clear the gap.
*Ryan Capes didn't do this jump for us, but we have reached 400 posts. A big thanks to all our readers.
